WORLD SUPERCROSS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX MAKES HISTORY AS THE MIDDLE EAST’S FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL SUPERCROSS EVENT

In its regional debut, the FIM World Supercross Championship Abu Dhabi Grand Prix provided a roaring spectacle for fans in the Middle East in its first showing in Abu Dhabi in 2023, marking a thrilling start to the racing season on Yas Island.

The spectacular event, held at Etihad Arena, saw the iconic venue transform into an all-new supercross track thanks to the addition of over 7,000 tonnes of dirt, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.

In the lead up to the event, the excitement reached new heights as Freestyle Motocross (FMX) rider Alex Bucholtz showcased his jaw-dropping skills at Yas Mall. The highlight of the performance was an incredible backflip at more than 10 meters high inside the mall, before speeding down the aisles on his way outside setting the stage for his journey to Etihad Arena.

The event marked the first time Etihad Arena featured both indoor and outdoor supercross action across the racing spectacle, with the world’s best motocross riders taking on the unique track layout in the Middle East’s WSX debut.

Thousands of passionate fans packed into the Yas Island venue for a full day of world-class racing, freestyle motocross shows and live music drawing in motorsport enthusiasts from around the world to witness the top 40 WSX riders in action.

In a fierce competition, Joey Savatgy emerged as the first ever WSX Abu Dhabi GP champion in the WSX 450cc division, while Max Anstie secured first place in the SX2 250cc race.

In addition to the international competition, the event also welcomed the UAE’s top 20 junior riders, with the sport’s next generation of local stars. showcasing their skills, aiming to make their mark and join the future ranks of experienced champions on the World Supercross Championship stage.

Featuring thrilling performances from regional and international athletes, the FIM World Supercross Championship Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a huge success, and marked a new era for supercross in the region.
